Soldiers put a stop to an unofficial Full Moon Party taking place in Koh Phangan, which was taking place late on Saturday night.
After receiving reports from local residents soldiers were dispatched to the Ban Thai Beach where they found over 100 foreigners partying on the sands.
An announcement was made last week that the official Full Moon Party was cancelled out of respect for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej ahead of his funeral ceremonies that begin on October 25.
Along with the foreign revellers soldiers reportedly found evidence of illegal drugs being taken.
Soldiers took into evidence 147 cylinders of Nitrous Oxide gas, often referred to as “Hippy Crack” as well as large quantities of cannabis and other drug related paraphernalia.
The incident was described by many as “inappropriate.”
Soldiers went on to Haad Rin Beach, the usual site of the official Full Moon Party.
They noted that there was loud music playing and tourists were seen eating and drinking but not on the scale of the normal Full Moon Parties.
