Monkey Mountain in Hua Hin is under threat as restaurant owners complain that the monkeys are stealing food and damaging property in the area.
Some of the monkeys have been electrocuted as they frolic on over head power cables.
The complaints have forced the Hau Hin Mayor Noppaporn Wuthikun to visit the popular tourist attraction to see what can be done to resolve the situation.
Monkey Mountain is a favourite haunt with many visitors to Hua Hin. It has a number of quality seafood restaurants and of course its population of monkeys.
Tourist can purchase buckets of food and attempt to feed the monkeys but more often than not, they will have the edibles off you before you can put your hand in the bucket. The mischievous creatures are comical to watch and they do attract visitors.
With Thailand having strict laws on animal protection, the solution is likely to be lie in either some form or barricade for the restaurants or some of the animals being removed and re-homed.
