Police in Pattaya were out on a training exercise yesterday in an effort to reassure both locals and tourists that they are more than capable of hunting down armed robbers.
The operation was led by Pattaya police chief Apichai Krobpetch were he supervised his finest officers undertaking the mock robbery which began with a staged armoured car robbery in Jomtien Soi 2 and ended with the successful apprehension of two men pretending to be robbers in Soi Batman.
The operation was apparently a result of lack of arrests made after an armed robbery at a Tesco Lotus gold shop in Chonburi last week were as things stand robbers were able to make off with 10.6 million bahts worth of Gold.
Pattaya police were able to track the mock robbers using a new piece of kit apparently, a device called a drone.
Though there has been very little mention of them using this technology in prior investigations the drone was able to track the robbers to a deserted building on Soi Batman.
It was noted in the report that police in Pattaya are doing everything they can to make the city as safe as possible for both tourists and locals.
