A 65-year-old man lost his life after a PVC pipe came loose from the back of a pick-up and struck him in the head, sending him crashing off of the back of a motorcycle.

The female driver of the pickup had just purchased the four metre long pipe from a store, where staff had secured it no her truck, though obviously not very well.

The accident was captured on CCTV in Sam Khok in Pathum Thani showing the moment Chao Jaikham, 65, was struck by the pipe as he was a pillion rider, the driver of the bike Somsak Phosri, 61, managed to duck under the rouge pipe.

Officers and medical personnel found the victim deceased when they arrived with a severe wound to his head and a broken ankle.

The pipe broke from the impact of the collision.

The driver of the pickup Preeyanut Uamsin, 51, said she was completely unaware that anything had happened and only realised when another driver flagged her down further down the road.

Officers are continuing their investigation using other CCTV sources.

No mention was made if the deceased was wearing a crash helmet.
