The Pattaya police chief has gone on the record to speak out after a video was posted online showing an arresting soldier beating a drugs suspect on the island of Koh Larn
The video showed the officer forcing the suspect to the ground and kicking the man then allegedly beating the man with a stick and kicking him several more times once out of shot of the camera.
Chief Apichai Krobpetch said that the man in the video had tested positive for drug use after a urine test and had a Ya Ba pill in his possession.
The chief said “the suspect was processed according to Thai law.”
He said when the suspect arrived at the station he had no wounds and made no complaint over his arrest so no charges were made against the arresting soldier.
Chief Apichai said “if the man wants to he can press charges.”
This was apparently the suspects fifth or sixth drug related offense.
Sanook stated that the suspect was unavailable for comment and they insinuated he was afraid of repercussions for his family who own a restaurant on Koh Larn.
Relatives of the man told the media that the soldier in question had apologised.
