Police in Pattaya arrested a Russian man who appeared drunk after he and his friends assaulted a Thai man and a tourist from Hong Kong late on Wednesday night.

Eye-witnesses told officers that a group of Russian men were walking along the street arguing with anyone who passed by before the altercation happened.

Once police arrived the group of men fled with only the one man arrested. Police are currently withholding the identity of the Russian man detained.

The tourist from Hong Kong was identified as Wong Yuk Mo, 65 who was rushed to hospital having suffered head injuries.

Also injured in the incident was 20-year-old Patipha Paetkul, a Thai national.

Patipha said he was out on his motorbike making a delivery when the group of men blocked the road and would not let him pass.

He said he attempted to go round the men when one of them hit his helmet and then a fight broke out until police arrived.
