Impatience – often a problem with drivers in Thailand but on this occasion, it has lead to a taxi driver sustaining critical injuries.
The driver in this incident tried to outrun a barrier being lowered on the Krungthep Bridge in Bangkok on Tuesday morning.
The end result was a victory for the barrier as it penetrated the front window of the vehicle and came out the rear, with the driver being seriously hurt as a result.
Police said that lack of patience on the unnamed driver’s behalf was the cause of the accident.
The Krungthep Bridge spans the Chao Phraya River in the city. Its middle sections lift up to permit ships to pass through. The barriers are lowered to prevent traffic from entering the bridge before the middle sections open, allowing large seagoing vessels to pass safely through.
