The Police of the Northeastern Nakhon Phanom province have seized 9-tons of marijuana and finally burned all of it worth THB200 million (US$6 million). This is the largest amount of weed that Thailand has burnt in the last ten years.
The Governor of Nakhon Phanom, Somchai Witdumrong, on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, in an organized ceremony, addressed the Thai locals, especially the youths of the nation regarding the harmful effects of drugs and ways to overcome it.
And what better way other than this burning!
Matichon reported that of late, the smugglers have been using Thailand’s northeastern routes for this trade. Laos and Nakhon Phanom shares the border and makes the latter a high-risk province from which three tons of marijuana have been seized in the last three months.
Though the country burned nine tonnes of marijuana the smoke inhaled from that blazing fire was no different than smoking it, as addressed earlier by Dr. Weerachai Putthawong from Kasetsart University.
Nonetheless, this was a good initiative taken up by the police of Nakhon Phanom province, who didn’t invite teenagers for the occasion unlike Bueng Kan Province in 2016.
