A flash flood resulted in a bus being washed off of a road in Nakhom Si Thammarat late on Tuesday night and currently two female passengers are missing and 50 bus passengers had to be rescued by emergency teams.

A rescue operation was mounted in the early hours of Wednesday morning led by Si Chon district chief Yongyuth Jitsamruay comprising of police and soldiers to free trapped passengers on the bus after it was swept along in a strong current.

Doctors examined everyone rescued from the bus after they were all taken to the Si Chon community hall.

Search and rescue opperations are still being carried out in an effort to find the two missing passengers identified as Manee Khamkaew, 63, and Chan Khamkaedw, 68.

The bus and the driver were rented to take residents from Surat Thani to Tha Sala in Nakhon Si Thammarat to attend a funeral.

The bus was returning the passengers home after the funeral when flood waters swept it off of the road and it was taken away by a strong river current.
