Police here in Pattaya have arrested a Russian tourist who was said to have been over the legal limit and driving at high speed when he crashed his motorbike into a rescue worker attending the scene of another accident in the early hours of this morning.

The victim, rescue worker Apimon Sathornkij was attending to a stricken motorcyclist outside of the Harley-Davidson service center on Sukhumvit Road when 45-year-old Oleg Volobujev reportedly crashed into him at around 1:00am this morning.

Speaking about the incident police said the Russian man was traveling at high speed and was so intoxicated all he could say following the accident was that he was drunk.

Officers said Volobujev was taken to Pattaya Police Station and once sober will have to arrange compensation for the injured rescue worker, the tourist is facing several charges.

There was no mention in the report to the severity of the rescue workers injuries nor if Volobujev or his pillion rider suffered any injuries as a result of the incident.
